Terms of Agreement

  1. No member of the adopting family has been charged with cruelty to animals.

  1. The Westie will be kept solely as a house pet.

  1. The Westie will never be used for breeding, fighting or experimentation.

  1. The Westie will never be given, leased or sold to any person, laboratory or business.   If the adopting family/individual wishes to relinquish custody of the dog, they agree to return the dog into the care of Westie Rescue of Tennessee immediately.   The adopting family agrees to pay any and all costs associated with transporting the dog back to Westie Rescue of Tennessee, should they move outside of the mid-state area.

  1. The adopter(s) will provide sufficient food, water, shelter and veterinary care.

  1. The adopting family/individual will provide a properly fenced yard and/or will leash walk the dog several times daily.   Because Westies are bred to hunt and exterminate vermin, they may chase wild animals, bark, dig and perform other hunting/go-to-the-ground actions, and therefore require protection from harm.

  1. If over 6 months of age, the Westie will be spayed or neutered at the time of adoption if not already altered.   If the rescue Westie has been altered recently, the adopting family/individual agrees to have the Westie examined within 48 hours by a licensed veterinarian to certify the dog is healing properly and to obtain medical advice on recovery procedures for the Westie.   If the dog is under 6 months of age, the adopter agrees to provide Westie Rescue of Tennessee with a copy of the spay/neuter certificate issued by the veterinarian no later than the following date:_____________.

  1. The adopting family/individual will maintain a current dog license as required by their local ordinance and will assure that the dog is inoculated against disease; especially rabies.   The adopter will also see that the Westie always carries, at a minimum identifying tags on its collar or, as is considered best by animal control officials, the tags plus microchip identification.

  1. The adopting family/individual agrees that if Westie Rescue of Tennessee determines that the terms and conditions of this agreement have not been met, the adopting family/individual will surrender custody of the dog upon demand.

  1. Westie Rescue of Tennessee makes no warranties regarding the temperament, behavior or physical condition of any adoptive Westie nor guarantees it free of genetic defects peculiar to the breed.   The adopting family/individual agrees to hold harmless and indemnify Westie Rescue of Tennessee from all claims, demands, action, causes of action or liability of any kind whatsoever arising out of or in connection with this adoption.

  1. Westies are typically affectionate and friendly.   However, no one can predict how any dog will react in a given situation, especially without complete knowledge of its life experiences.   Therefore, adoptive owners are encouraged to exercise caution in introducing an adoptive dog into new situations until the Westie has become adjusted to its new environment.   It is strongly recommended that interaction between dogs and children be monitored by an adult at all times.

I have read the adoption agreement and agree to the conditions set forth.
